Common denominator-
BRCA 1 gene mutation positive
Lifetime risk of ovarian cancer for BRCA1 carriers is estimated at 35 to 70 percent.
Compare that to an average woman, the lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is about 1.5 percent.
Women who carry a BRCA1 gene mutation have a 50 to 70 percent chance of developing breast cancer by age 70.
Women in the general population have about an eight percent chance of developing breast cancer by age 70.
These are real numbers. This matters.
Do you have a family history of these cancers in your family?
If you do, you need to tell your doctor.
You must be pro-active and take charge of your own health.
Forewarned is forearmed.
