Well I went for my checkup yesterday with my oncologist surgeon Dr. S. I'm sad to say that she won't be my doctor anymore because she is relocating to California.
She is just the absolute best doctor ever. When everyone else was looking at me and saying "I'm so sorry" with absolute pity in their eyes, she looked at me and said "I can make you feel better".
And she did. Physically and emotionally.
No, she never promised me a "cure".
She never sugar-coated anything or tried to make this disease out to be anything other that what it is.
She did the unheard of "only on t.v. and the movies" thing and personally called me at home with test results,
and on each visit , she handed me a printed copy of them and carefully reviewed them with me. All without me having to ask.
She answered all my questions regardless of how mundane or repetitive, and was never condescending or impatient.
She believed that I could fight back and she gave me the tools to do just that.
She did her best for me and no matter what the future brings, for that I thank her.
I will miss her. I wish her well.
Now she took the time to introduce me to my new doctor.
Dr. D.
It's a HE
but seeing as how he's already had his hands inside my abdominal cavity,
(He assisted her with my original debulking surgery) And by the "Code of the Hills" that means we're practically betrothed,
I guess the least I can do is give him a chance. :)
Poor man.
He has some pretty high heels to fill.
Have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend everyone!
Love, Dixie
NOTE: My CA-125 had risen to 13 following my hernia repair, and I am happy to say that it is back down to 8 which appears to be my baseline. :)
